Assistant Professor of Mathematics
The Computer Science Minor is offered by the Department of Computer Science and Digital Forensics to prepare non-major students, advancing their ability to collect, process, analyze, and present data effectively. The minor trains students to solve/automate different computational problems using their preferred programming language. The Computer Science minor enhances the marketability of non-major students' degrees since computers are used in every life venue.
Students wishing to add the Computer Science minor should take one of the following pathways:
- Pathway 1
- CMSC 120: Object-Oriented Programming with Java.
- CMSC 130: Graphical User Interfaces in Java.
- +11 additional elective credits from the Computer Science major as explained in this proposal and the minor map.
- Pathway 2
- CMSC 120: Object-Oriented Programming with Java.
- CMSC 115: Python Programming.
- CMSC 215: Advanced Python.
- +9 additional elective credits from the Computer Science major as explained in this proposal and the minor map.
Courses and Curriculum
Computer Science Minor Requirements
- 19 credits required for minor completion
- Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.
- Analyze a complex computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of computer science.
- Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.
